A former Arsenal player questioned whether signings like Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez will truly take Liverpool to the next level this summer.
Liverpool’s summer rebuild under Arne Slot is already making headlines, with the club moving aggressively to freshen up key areas of the squad.
The Reds confirmed the £116m signing of Florian Wirtz last week — making him Liverpool’s most expensive signing to date.
Jeremie Frimpong became Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, joining for £29m to add more pace and attacking threat down the right flank.
Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez has also arrived for £40m, strengthening the opposite side as a potential long-term option beyond Andy Robertson.
Despite the buzz, former Arsenal player Charlie Nicholas remains unconvinced by Liverpool’s summer business so far.

Sharing his thoughts on Liverpool’s transfer moves, Charlie Nicholas didn’t hold back about whether the new signings will really lift the team.
He openly questioned if Kerkez has what it takes to reach Robertson’s level.
Nicholas said, “Is Milos Kerkez going to be better than Andy Robertson?
I don’t think so and I don’t think their defence has drastically improved.”
Nicholas feels Liverpool’s back line still needs to be stronger if they want to seriously challenge for trophies under Slot.
He also believes Wirtz, despite his quality, might not deliver an instant impact.
He further added, “Florian Wirtz is a fantastic signing, but he may take time to settle… I’m sure Wirtz will be valuable, but I don’t think it’s a massive jump forward for Liverpool.”
